Answers

1. How often should my pellet stove be cleaned?
Routine cleaning should be done be done at least once per week, more if your pellets are depositing a lot of soot or ash. Your owners manual should outline what your particular model's regular cleaning needs are. Your pellet stove should also undergo an in depth cleaning once per year. This should include the pellet vent pipe, blowers, behind baffles, and more. Again, this should be outlined in your owners manual. We would be happy to do your annual cleaning for you. The best rates on pellet cleanings are available June-August when we run a summer special. Call to schedule an appointment.

2. Do you clean wood stove/fireplace chimneys?
No. While we are happy to provide service on the actual wood burning unit, only a licensed chimney sweep can clean the chimney of a wood burning stove or fireplace. However, if you call our office, we would be happy to recommend a licensed chimney sweep to you.

3. My stove is not working, but its not a brand you carry. Can you help?
In most cases, yes. There are only a couple manufacturers that will not sell parts to us because we are not a licensed dealer of their brand. However, most companies are more than willing to sell us replacement parts and offer technical assistance.

4. I shut the pilot light off on my stove for the summer and now I can't get it to start. What do I do?
Over the course of the summer, it is highly likely that the gas retreated through the pipe to the site where it enters the home. You may need to hold the pilot button in for several minutes to give the gas time to work its way back through the lines to the stove. If you are still having trouble, give us a call and we can set up an appointment.

5. My pilot is on, but I can't get the burner on my gas stove to come on. What do I do?
First, check to make sure the stove has been switched from the "pilot" position to the "on" position. The burner will not come on if the stove is still set to "pilot". Also, something as small as one spider web or a little dust can impede the stove's ability to light. Shut off the gas to the stove, then use a can of compressed air (like what you clean a computer keyboard with) to blow out any possible obstructions. If you are still having trouble, give us a call and we can set up an appointment.

6. What is a Btu?
Btu stands for British Thermal Unit, and is the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water from 60° to 61°F at a constant pressure of one atmosphere. In layman's terms, it's a way of measuring heat output, and it's one of the tools we use to rank a stove's ability to produce heat.

7. How many square feet will a specific model heat?
While there are square footage ratings listed for each unit, the only accuarate way that can be determined is if the entire floor plan of the home, insulation value and needs are all considered. It is always best to speak with a sales associate, tell them about your home, life style and describe what your goals are for heating.
